Celtic Coins of the Geoff Cottam Collection

Spink London is selling the Celtic coin collection of Geoff Cottam on December 2, 2015.

One of the most stunning rarities within this collection is one of the finest known gold Quarter Staters of the Atrebates and Regni peoples, minted under Tincomarus, (c.20 BC-AD 10). It is a 'Medusa' type.

Celtic, Trinovantes and Catuvellauni, uninscribed coinage, (c.60-20 BC), gold Quarter Stater, 1.25g,

Addedomaros Crescent Cross. c.45-25 BC.
The Celtic tribes left very little archaeological imprint with which to understand their culture, and almost all written description of them comes from other cultures.

All that remains are a few artifacts; of which this collection is a treasure trove.

Hamas seize chest of Ottoman gold coins

Hamas forces seized a chest full of Ottoman-era gold coins discovered in Gaza, Israeli news site Walla reported on Monday.

The Turkish coins, an important archaeological find, was uncovered by construction workers paving a road in the neighborhood of Shujaiyeh. A fight broke out over the coins among residents of the area, which was ended when Hamas-controlled police intervened.
The police then confiscated the coins and other archaeological objects that were dug up, and the Gaza City municipality announced a halt to all construction work in the neighborhood until an archaeologist could inspect the scene.
Much of Gaza City's Shujaiyeh neighborhood was destroyed in the 2014 war.
